Field Notes: Phase 3

Phase 3 marks a turning point in my practice. The works move toward calm, distilled compositions: single or repeated forms (a circle and vertical stem) suspended in atmospheric oil backgrounds. Originally based on traces from my studio—where old light switches were removed—the motif now functions more like a glyph: less about the building, more about presence, rhythm, and placement.

Colour has become central. Each painting begins with the slow mixing and brushing of a background hue, chosen for its emotional tone as much as its material balance. The forms are applied with spray paint—hard-edged, yet fragile—and seem to float, tilt, or align within loosely implied systems.

What began as an attempt to distance myself emotionally has turned into something more personal: a way of negotiating space, order, and disintegration. The works reflect not just a language of painting, but a search for where I belong in it—especially within the context of Swiss abstraction and my own dual cultural identity.
