2026

Statement

My recent work grows out of sustained observation of the building where I have been working since 2021. I have developed an interest in the traces that accumulate on architectural surfaces: repairs, removals, markings and structural elements, and how these can be translated into a painterly language.

Two recurring materials organise this body of work: bars and hessian. The bent bars originate in the window grilles of the building and function as a simple structural motif. Repeated and slightly varied, they suggest systems under pressure, small deviations within ordered frameworks. Hessian, historically embedded in the walls as a reinforcing fabric, acts as both surface and metaphor. It introduces a visible weave that holds the composition together while recording the absorption, resistance and movement of paint.

Across these works I combine different media and processes to explore tension between control and contingency. Paint is layered, wiped back, filtered or transferred through textile, allowing gravity and material behaviour to participate in the image. The resulting paintings are less about representation than about the negotiation between structure and surface. A dialogue between architectural order and the unstable traces of time.
